Ipoh White Coffee
That day, a visitor from Hong Kong was asking me about what's so special about Ipoh White Coffee? He even can get it from Hong Kong supermarket, of course in those "3 in 1" packaging. But the truth is, Ipoh residents and cafes rarely drink or serve this type of instant coffee. Fresh brewed coffee is our first choice!
People often heard about this famous beverage but they usually don't really know what is it. Some of them will think that the coffee is white in color (based on its name). It's not. That would be milk instead. Hehe.
So, what is Ipoh White Coffee? What makes it different with ordinary coffee? The difference is the way of preparing the coffee bean.
The traditional Malaysian style "black" coffee (here refer to the ordinary coffee; don't mistaken it as coffee served without milk) roasted with margarine, 60% burnt caramel and adulterated with grounded wheat/oat.
In the other hand, white coffee is roasted from 100% coffee bean with only margarine. As a result, it shows a lighter color and thus getting its famous name.
This kind of unique roasting method is originated from the Old Town, Ipoh. It was first roasted and drank in the 19th century by tin miners of olden day Ipoh.
Why should you try out this unique roasted coffee?Simply because it is famous! Hehe, kidding. Reasons are: - It is healthier than "black" coffee since it's purer without adulterator etc.
- It's heavily intense in aroma (in the other words, it smells really good!)
- Pure in coffee taste
- Everybody loves it! Hehe.
Okay, where should you go for a try?In Old Town, the most popular and old-aged restaurants which famous with the coffee are "Sin Yoon Loong", "Sun Yuan Foong" and "Nam Heong". All of them located at the same road, which is "Jalan Bandar Timah".
