I’d heard about Ipoh City Hotel few times before I planned to stay there during a trip back to Ipoh after my family shifted to KL. Our friends were staying there and gave us nice feedback.
This hotel is sort of new, which was opened 2 or 3 years ago perhaps. It has a great location, at the heart of the city.
It is a budget hotel that does not have many facilities. There is no restaurant, thus the room does not include breakfast.

However, there is a Chinese restaurant next to the hotel, called the Houston Café.
So, it’s still very convenient for the hotel guests to have a meal.
For your information, the food is halal.
We had our meals there too and it’s quite ok.
I love their drink, which is the sea coconut ice with lemon. It’s a very refreshing beverage!
Houston Café provides free wi-fi, and so do the hotel. Although the free wi-fi area is limited to the hotel lobby, it’s good enough for me. Better than the Heritage Hotel, which does not provide free internet connection while charging us with much more expensive room rate.

Every Sunday morning, there is a flea market nearby the hotel. You may consider having a walk there after the breakfast. It's a good exercise while you may be able to grab yourself a cool antique too. (n_n)
Back to the room, it’s a standard room equipped with basic facilities. It’s not fancy, stylish, but it’s clean and neat.

At the time I was staying there (Nov 2008), the standard room rate was RM93.45 (2 single beds) and the deluxe room rate was RM157.50 (2 double beds).
Overall, I’m satisfied with the hotel.
