How Should You
Getting Around Ipoh?

Remember, YOU choose the way to get around Ipoh according to your own needs.

By Bus

For getting around Ipoh, I personally don't recommend the bus service. If you depend on the bus, you probably will spend hours waiting for it.

Most of the buses are not in good condition, which is old, no air-condition, dirty, etc. The bus network is limited too. Most of the time, you'll need to get a transit at the bus terminal.

By Taxi

Getting on a taxi going around Ipoh is easier. However, unlike taxi in Kuala Lumpur, there are still an amount of taxi drivers in Ipoh don't use a meter for charging fare. So, you better make sure you get one that has a meter or you discuss fare with the driver before you get on it.

In conclusion, taxi option is better in accessibility but may be a bit expensive.

By Car

Finally, you could get a rental car if you want to have your own travel schedule without depending on public transport services.

Just make sure you've got the map and knowing the location of petrol stations. All petrol stations will be the same as petroleum/gas is selling at flat price through out the whole Malaysia.

Anyway, don't worry, you can always ask for directions from local residents with English even though the main language used is Cantonese. And, you too, can always take a U-turn when you are going in the wrong direction because Ipoh has much less one-way street than Kuala Lumpur.

To drive in Malaysia, you need a driving license. An international driving license is acceptable. In addition, driving lane in Malaysia is on the left and the driver seat is on the right hand side of the vehicle.

Starting from January 1st of 2009, passengers on the back seats are required to secure their safety belt. Summon will be issued to the driver for breaching the rule. So...

...please take note for this change! I certainly don't want you to get into any trouble but just the fun of travel.

Here is your driving guide in Ipoh (or Malaysia).
