Excelsior Hotel used to be the only and highest class hotel in Ipoh. Its 14th floors building is one of the land mark in the city. When I was young, I always get excited to attend any banquet at the hotel ballroom. The marvelous view from 14th floor over the Ipoh city is really inspiring.

Since it is the oldest hotel among the other top hotels mentioned in this website, you might think that it looks old and ugly. In my opinion, the hotel may not be as new and nicely designed as the others, but it's definitely not old and ugly. In fact, a new block of building has been established few years ago to strengthen their service.

So, why would you pick this hotel?

Excelsior Hotel is located in the heart of Ipoh city. Unless you're into those budget hotels, it is the cheapest hotel in the middle of town.

Besides eating, there is a live band entertainment for you every night from 8.30pm onwards, except Monday.

Sonata Lounge & Grill

Located at the first floor, this place separate into two parts, which is the lounge & bar, and western food restaurant. Live band entertainment is available too every night from 8.30pm onwards.

Saturday and eve of public holidays - 6pm to 2am
Sunday - Closed

Palace Chinese Restaurant

Located at the fifth floor, this restaurant serves Chinese cuisine. I still remembered that I've been here for someone's wedding dinner, the dishes are quite nice.

And if you prefer some privacy when eating as I do, you will be glad as there are 11 private rooms available for dining.

Daily - 12noon to 2.30pm & 6pm to 10.30pm
